Hydrogen in Transportation: The Time to Act is Now
By: GenH2 Staff
Read Time: 2 minutes

Hydrogen’s benefits as an energy carrier are becoming the main topic of discussion as environmental consciousness develops across our society. Conventions such as the ACT (Advanced Clean Transportation) Expo play a crucial role in spreading awareness of hydrogen and its applications throughout the mass transportation industry. This rise in awareness leads to a higher demand for hydrogen, resulting in a faster rollout of its infrastructure, which ultimately satisfies the increasing need for clean and sustainable energy.

The ACT Expo spreads this awareness by showcasing technologies that highlight hydrogen’s advantages as an alternative energy carrier for vehicles. Seeing as the transit industry has contributed to over 27% of the US’s total carbon emissions since 1990, the importance and inevitability of hydrogen’s role in this sector cannot be understated. Conventions such as the ACT Expo also help in highlighting the results of numerous studies supporting alternative fuels such as hydrogen, while demonstrating their relevance to the public.

A 2020 study by the North American Council for Freight Efficiency (NACFE) explains that trucks powered by hydrogen offer more efficiency and longevity than other renewables due to quicker refueling times and longer drive times between refueling. The increased energy density of liquid hydrogen is also a key piece in ensuring a zero-emission future, as it can be stored in spaces up to eight times smaller than gaseous hydrogen.

The results of these studies are best conveyed through conferences like the ACT Expo which allow decision makers in the transportation industry access to more detailed insight on the newest technology available for their future hydrogen fleets. Hydrogen is on-track to play imperative roles in all facets of society, with industries such as mass transit and long-haul transport being some of the earliest adopters. Showcasing the future of clean fuel alternatives is an essential part of incorporating hydrogen as a clean energy source in transportation, with conferences such as the ACT Expo playing a key role.

GenH2’s mission is to create infrastructure solutions for the light-scale liquefaction and storage of hydrogen. Providing a liquid hydrogen supply infrastructure for long-haul hydrogen trucks is included in GenH2’s mission, along with the on-demand and/or on-board supply for FCEV and ICE vehicles.
