The CEC/ICMC23 2023 Cryogenic Engineering Conference and International Cryogenic Materials Conference was held at the Hawai’i Convention Center in Honolulu, Hawai’i July 9-13 and GenH2 was proud to both sponsor and attend the annual event. The Cryogenic Engineering Conference is one of the most prominent events in the cryogenic industry. The exposition and exhibits included top manufacturers, suppliers, engineering firms, and institutions from around the world.

The GenH2 team shared three presentations based on papers covering the commercial implementation of new cryogenic technologies in hydrogen liquefaction, storage, and transfer as well as key testing capabilities for spurring the industrial adoption of LH2 for the transportation and energy sectors. While presenting, the surge of interest and activity in and around liquid hydrogen for clean energy applications was clearly noticeable. Two of the strongest areas of emphasis were LH2 for heavy-duty vehicles and LH2 for aircraft.

One of the main takeaways from the conference was also the increased interest in light-scale industrial hydrogen as the path forward for global adoption. Light-scale solutions are essential because, for cryogenics engineers, light-scale industrial hydrogen liquefaction is crucial to the actual research, development, and testing that will further adoption.

Throughout the conference, hundreds of peer-reviewed papers and posters are submitted for publication. Additionally, dozens of oral sessions on the most recent state-of-the-art cryogenic technology are offered during the four-day gathering – seventeen of which were specifically hydrogen-related.

Overall, the team at GenH2 found the CEC/ICMC23 conference to be an incredibly enriching experience. The many interactions with industry leaders and institutions promoted the public perception of GenH2’s products and capabilities worldwide and generated a potential opportunity for future collaboration.
